Academic research suggests that maths, more than any other subject, depends on good teaching for good results. Now retired from the classroom, my teaching experience began after a career actually applying science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). After gaining QTS, the majority of my teaching was at Thomas Mills High School, Framlingham and in the STEM faculty of Suffolk One College when they were first awarded 'outstanding' OFSTED judgements.
Strong subject knowledge and teaching qualifications are a good starting point for a tutor, but anxiety can be a significant handicap for students learning maths. "Henry Ford" was right when he commented on the importance of self belief, so developing confidence in learners is essential. Using skills gained from experience as a teacher (and tutor) I am proud to have helped hundreds of high school children fulfil their potential at a wide range of ability levels (click here for testimonial comments).
Previous experience as a school governor and now as a STEM ambassador actively supporting maths and computing in primary school complement my role as a maths tutor. Whether you are at school or a prospective teacher referred by SNITT, I can help you to fulfil your potential.
